Am Muttertag, setzten sich die U’s im Doubleheader gegen die Bonn Capitals zweimal deutlich durch.
Game 1
On Sunday our Untouchables drove down to Bonn for a classic double header against the Capitals. On the mound for the U’s was Mark Harrison and in relief Jan Luca Vogt. Both pitchers were dominant on the mound not allowing a single hit in 5 innings pitched. (Harrison 3.2 IP 0 H 0 R 1 BB 2 K and Vogt 1.1 IP 0 H 2 BB 1 K) However, the Untouchables defence proved to be the even better part of the day as spectacular “Big League” plays were made by Nadir Ljatifi, now at third base, Darrion Richards, and Christian Beyers. All plays being thrown over to Finn Bergmann, who moved over from third base and did an outstanding job.
Both defence and pitching have been the strongest parts of the Untouchables on the season, but Sunday showed that our offence is on the rise. The Untouchables offence scored 12 runs on 10 hits and 5 BB, exploding in the 3rd inning with 8 runs and 4 with two outs!! The highlight of the inning was a 2 run homerun by Finn Bergmann. The Untouchables showed their speed on the bases with 4 infield hits and going first to third numerous times causing the Capitals to make bad throws, which in turn gave the Untouchables more runs.
After five innings the game ended in mercy rule 12-0, to which the announcer told the spectators that had not happed to the Capitals since 2012.
Spiel 1
Am Sonntag fuhren unsere Untouchables nach Bonn zu einem klassischen Double Header gegen die Capitals. Auf dem Mound für die Untouchables stand Mark Harrison und als Relief Jan Luca Vogt. Beide Pitcher dominierten auf dem Mound und ließen in fünf Innings keinen einzigen Hit zu. (Harrison 3.2 IP 0 H 0 R 1 BB 2 K und Vogt 1.1 IP 0 H 2 BB 1 K) Allerdings erwies sich die Verteidigung der Untouchables als der noch bessere Teil des Tages, denn Nadir Ljatifi, jetzt an der dritten Base, Darrion Richards und Christian Beyers machten spektakuläre "Big League"-Spielzüge. Alle Spielzüge wurden zu Finn Bergmann gespielt, der von der dritten and die erste Base wechselte und eine hervorragende Arbeit leistete.
Sowohl die Verteidigung als auch das Pitching waren bislang in dieser Saison die größten Stärken der Untouchables, aber der Sonntag hat gezeigt, dass unsere Offensive auf dem Vormarsch ist. Die Offensive der Untouchables erzielte zwölf Runs bei zehn Hits und fünf BB und explodierte im dritten Inning mit acht Runs, vier davon mit zwei Outs!!! Das Highlight des Innings war ein 2-Run Homerun von Finn Bergmann. Die Untouchables zeigten ihre Schnelligkeit auf den Bases, indem sie vier Infield Hits erzielten und die Capitals immer wieder zu schlechten Würfen verleiteten, was wiederum den Untouchables weitere Runs bescherte.
Nach fünf Innings endete das Spiel nach Mercy Rule mit 12:0, worauf der Sprecher den Zuschauern mitteilte, dass dies den Capitals seit 2012 nicht mehr passiert war.
Game 2
Game two would not be so easy. The Bonn Capitals have been one of the best clubs in Europe of the past 6 and they are a very proud group of players. The Capitals came out on fire scoring 4 runs in the first inning letting the Untouchables know they were not going down without a fight. However, the Untouchables started the second inning the same way they ended game 1 by scoring 4 runs with 2 outs in the second inning. Linus Nixdorf started the 2 out rally with a 2 RBI single, after a hit by Darrion Richards and hit-by-pitch by Maurice Bendrien, Bjarne Reinhardt doubled down the left field line for 2 more RBIs.
The Untouchables took the lead in the 3rd inning with a two out RBI single by Luca Rammelman and never looked back. Florian Seidel, after a shaky 1st inning, was dominant in the next 3 innings allowing only one hit and no runs.
In the fifth inning the Untouchables left no doubt that they came to the Reinland with intentions on winning two games. The U’s exploded by scoring 6 runs on 7 hits, with RBIs for Luca Rammelmann, Linus Nixdorf, and Maurice Bendrien. Also, in the fifth inning Benjamin Thaqi came onto the mound in relief of Seidel tossing 1.2 IP 2 H 1 R 1 BB 1 SO. Both teams will play Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday for a total of 32 more innings over a 4 day stretch, so organizing the pitching staff was a priority for both teams. Matt Kemp came in to finish the inning in the 6th and Quinn DiPasquale closed the game in the 7th to get ready for out next opponent.
Overall, it was an impressive weekend for the young Untouchables (average age of team on the field – 22 years old) winning 2 games against the more experienced Bonn Capitals (Most Bonn players are in the 30s). Our young team will need to keep playing consistent team baseball if it is to be successful this weekend against the Hamburg Stealers. Paderborn travels to Hamburg on Thursday to play 2 games (2 – 7 inning games) starting at 12 Uhr. Then Saturday at 18 uhr and Sunday at 12 Uhr. Let’s pack the stadium and support our young stars!
Spiel 2
Spiel zwei sollte nicht so einfach werden. Die Bonn Capitals waren in den letzten sechs Jahren einer der besten Clubs in Europa und sie sind eine sehr stolze Gruppe von Spielern. Die Capitals erzielten im ersten Inning vier Runs, die die Untouchables wissen ließen, dass sie nicht kampflos untergehen würden. Doch die Untouchables begannen das zweite Inning genauso, wie sie Spiel 1 beendet hatten, indem sie vier Runs bei zwei Outs im zweiten Inning erzielten. Linus Nixdorf begann die 2-Out-Rallye mit einem 2-RBI-Single, nach einem Hit von Darrion Richards und einem Hit-by-Pitch von Maurice Bendrien schlug Bjarne Reinhardt ein Double entlang der Leftfield Line für 2 weitere RBIs.
Die Untouchables gingen im dritten Inning mit einem Two-Out-RBI-Single von Luca Rammelman in Führung und gaben diese nicht mehr ab. Florian Seidel, nach einem wackeligen ersten Inning, war in den nächsten drei Innings dominant und ließ nur einen Hit und keine Runs zu.
Im fünften Inning ließen die Untouchables keinen Zweifel daran, dass sie mit der Absicht ins Rheinland gekommen waren, zwei Spiele zu gewinnen. Die Untouchables erzielten sechs Runs bei sieben Hits, mit RBIs für Luca Rammelmann, Linus Nixdorf und Maurice Bendrien. Im fünften Inning kam Benjamin Thaqi als Ersatz für Seidel auf den Mound und warf 1.2 IP 2 H 1 R 1 BB 1 SO. Beide Teams spielen am Donnerstag, Samstag und Sonntag in insgesamt 32 weiteren Innings innerhalb von vier Tagen, so dass die Aufstellung der Pitcher für beide Teams Priorität hatte. Matt Kemp beendete das Inning im 6. Inning und Quinn DiPasquale beendete das Spiel im 7. Inning, um sich auf den nächsten Gegner vorzubereiten.
