Game 1 Paderborn 3 – Bonn 2
On Saturday our Untouchables played against the Bonn Capitals under a blue sky and warm sun. Mark Harrison was on the mound for the Untouchables and through 5 innings pitches was extremely dominant against the league’s best hitting team. In the 6th inning Mark ran into trouble and Matt Kemp took the mound throwing 2 shut out innings. Following Kemp were Florian Seidel and Benjamin Thaqi combining to throw the last two scoreless innings.
The Untouchables defence was tremendous behind all of the pitchers as 21 of the 27 outs were made by our fielders. A standout relay from Luca Rammelmann to Nadir Ljatifi secured an important out in the 7th inning as a runner tried to advance to second base.
Offensively the Untouchables out hit the Capitals (8 hits for the U’s – 4 for Caps). Our standout hitter of the day was Bjarne Reinhardt (3-5, 2 RBIs) driving in a run with two outs in the 5th innings and capping off his performance with a walk off single to win the game for the Untouchables. It cannot go unsaid that the Untouchables were tough outs at the plate fighting off pitches to extend at bats and draw walks. (6 BB to 9 Ks). It was great to see Finn Bergmann grinding out at bats going (2-3) at the plate and showing all of the hard work he is putting into his game. All and all it was a great team win.
Am Samstag spielten unsere Untouchables unter blauem Himmel und der warmen Sonne im heimischen Ahorn Ballpark gegen die Bonn Capitals. Mark Harrison startete auf dem Mound für die Untouchables und dominierte das Spiel gegen die beste Schlagmannschaft der Liga fünf Innings lang. Im sechsten Inning bekam er Probleme und Matt Kemp übernahm. Kemp warf zwei Shut-Out-Innings. Auf Kemp folgten noch Florian Seidel und Benjamin Thaqi, die gemeinsam die letzten beiden Innings beendeten konnten ohne einen gegnerischen Run zuzulassen.
Die Abwehr der Untouchables unterstützte unsere Pitcher enorm gut, unsere Fielder konnten 21 der 27 Outs des Spiels für sich verbuchen. Ein herausragender Relay von Luca Rammelmann zu Nadir Ljatifi sicherte ein wichtiges Aus im siebten Inning.
In der Offensive gelangen den Untouchables mehr Hits als dem Gegner aus Bonn (acht Hits für Paderborn, vier für die Capitals). Besonders herausstechen konnte Bjarne Reinhardt (3-5, 2 RBIs), der im fünften Inning bei zwei Aus zwei Runs nach Hause schlug und schließlich im neunten Inning mit seinem RBI-Single für den Walk-Off Sieg sorgte. Es sollte außerdem erwähnt werden, dass sich die Untouchables an der Platte nicht leicht geschlagen gaben, schwierige Pitches abwehrten und At Bats damit in die Länge ziehen konnten. Sechs Bases on Balls standen am Ende neun Strike-Outs gegenüber. Es war toll zu sehen, wie Finn Bergmann sich am Schlag bemühte und am Ende des Spiels zwei Hits in drei At Bats verzeichnen konnte. Er konnte zeigen, wie viel harte Arbeit er in sein Spiel investiert hat. Alles in Allem war es ein großer Mannschaftserfolg.
Game 2 Paderborn 2 – Bonn 3
On Sunday the weather was once again perfect for baseball as the skies opened up and let the sun shine down onto Ahorn Ballpark. Quinn DiPasquale took the mound for the U’s and gave a solid performance on the mound (6IP 6 H 2ER 2BB 5 Ks), keeping the Caps off balance for most of the game. Quinn was followed by Florian Seidel who threw a scoreless 7th inning, but in the 8th made a pitch up in the strike zone that a Capital’s hitting promptly hit over the leftfield fence to give the Caps a 3-2 lead. Benjamin Thaqi threw a scoreless 9th inning to give the U’s the chance to tie or win as they did the previous day in the bottom of the 9th. The atmosphere in Ahorn Ballpark came alive to support the Untouchables --- ‘Loud and Proud’ our fans raised the volume and helped put pressure on the Capitals. Linus Nixdorf drew a lead off walk, and was pinch ran for by Henry Hüttner (one of the fastest baseball players in Germany). Hüttner stole second base, and gave both Finn Bergmann and Nadir Ljatifi a chance to tie the game, but the closer for the Caps was too strong and both were out ending the game.
Our hitters were kept off balance the whole day and unfortunately did not make enough adjustments throughout the game to get the necessary hits to score the runs. (but that’s baseball – ‘we don’t lose… we learn’) Bjarne Reinhardt continues to impress at the plate going 2-4 on Sunday, and Nadir Ljatifi also hit well going 3-6 on the weekend.
Our defence let us down at times on Sunday, but it also showed that it can be one of the best in the league as the Untouchables turned three double plays.
Our team is moving in the right direction, and we are very thankful for the tremendous support from our fans. The Untouchables play this Sunday in Bonn (2 – 7 innings) starting at 13:00 Uhr.
Am Sonntag war das Wetter wieder einmal perfekt für Baseball, die Wolken öffneten sich und machten der Sonne Platz. Quinn DiPasquale startete auf dem Mound für die U’s und lieferte eine solide Performance ab (6 IP, 6 H, 2 ER, 2 BB, 5 Ks). Die Caps konnten so über große Teile des Spiels aus der Balance gebracht werden. Auf Quinn folgte Florian Seidel, der im siebten Inning keine Runs abgab, im achten allerdings einen Pitch hoch in der Strike Zone warf den die Caps prompt für einen Home Run über den Leftfield Zaun nutzten. Die Bonner gingen damit 3-2 in Führung. Benjamin Thaqi folgte im neunten Inning auf Seidel und ließ keine weiteren Runs zu, sodass die U’s die Chance bekamen das Spiel noch für sich zu entscheiden oder auszugleichen. „Loud and Proud“ wurde die Stimmung im Ahorn Ballpark, als die heimischen Fans alles dafür taten die Bonner Defensive unter Druck zu setzen und die Paderborner Schlagleute zu unterstützen. Linus Nixdorf bekam zunächst einen Lead-Off-Walk zugesprochen und wurde im Anschluss durch Henry Hüttner, einen der schnellsten Baseballspieler in Deutschland, als Pinch Runner ersetzt. Hüttner gelang es die zweite Base zu stehlen und gab so Finn Bergmann und Nadir Ljatifi die Möglichkeit den Spielstand auszugleichen. Doch der Bonner Closer auf dem Mound war zu stark, sodass keine weiteren Hits mehr gelangen und das Spiel beendet war.
Unsere Schlagleute fanden den ganzen Tag lang nicht ihr Gleichgewicht und konnten leider nicht die nötigen Anpassungen vornehmen, um die notwendigen Runs zu erzielen. Aber das ist Baseball - „wir
verlieren nicht, wir lernen!“ Bjarne Reinhardt beeindruckte erneut an der Platte mit zwei Hits in vier At Bats. Auch Nadir Ljatifi konnte mit drei Hits in sechs At Bats über das Wochenende überzeugen.
Unsere Abwehr hat uns am Sonntag zwar zeitweise im Stich gelassen, bewies aber mit drei Double Plays auch, dass sie zur besten der Liga gehört.
Unsere Mannschaft bewegt sich weiter in die richtige Richtung und wir bedanken uns für die überwältigende Unterstützung unserer Fans. Die Untouchables treten als nächstes an diesem Sonntag zu einem Double Header (zweimal sieben Innings) in Bonn an. Los geht’s um 13:00 Uhr.
