A tale of two different attitudes.
Game 1
On Saturday evening our Untouchables played against the Köln Cardinals. It was a hard fought and close game throughout the evening. Mark Harrison battled through 5 innings pitched with 5 BB and 7 K allowing only 1 unearned run. Following Mark were Benjamin Thaqi and Florian Seidel who combined to throw 4 innings, striking out 6, and allowing 1 R.
The Untouchables managed to get runners into scoring position in 5 of the 9 innings, but were unable to bring a run onto the scoreboard. Once again, our hitters put too much pressure on themselves, and were unable to take advantage of our scoring chances.
After the game the team was told to show up the next day and play with more joy and to enjoy the game.
Eine Geschichte zweier unterschiedlicher Haltungen.
Spiel 1
Am Samstagabend spielten unsere Untouchables gegen die Köln Cardinals. Es war den ganzen Abend ein hart umkämpftes und enges Spiel. Mark Harrison kämpfte sich durch 5 Innings mit 5 BB und 7 K und erlaubte nur 1 unearned Run. Hinter Mark folgten Benjamin Thaqi und Florian Seidel, die zusammen 4 Innings warf, 6 K‘s und 1 R zuließen.
Die Untouchables schafften es, Runner in 5 der 9 Innings in Scoring-Position zu bringen, konnten aber keinen Run auf die Anzeigetafel bringen. Wieder einmal machten sich unsere Schlagmänner zu viel Druck und konnten die Chancen nicht nutzen.
Nach dem Spiel wurde der Mannschaft gesagt, sie solle am nächsten Tag mit mehr Freude spielen und das Spiel genießen.
Game 2
On Sunday afternoon our second game started much the same way as Saturday night, but in the dugout, things were more positive. It was a 0-0 game through 4 innings. In the top of the 5th Quinn DiPasquale (5H 2ER 2BB 1 HBP in 4.1 IP) had some command issues and was relieved by Matt Kemp. After the 5 innings Köln was leading 3-0, but after a scoreless top of the 6th the Untouchables got the lead with 4 runs and never looked back. Five hits in the inning produced the runs necessary for Florian Seidel and Benjamin Thaqi, throwing on back-to-back days, to close the door with 2 IP, no runs, and 4 strikeouts.
The positive and energetic attitude of our team on Sunday was massive factor in our comeback. Baseball is a game of failure where mental toughness is tested daily. Staying positive and grinding out at bats led to Chris Beyers on an 0-2 count hitting an RBI double. Getting good pitches to hit allowed Linus Nixdorf to hit a 2 RBI single. These types of things are about giving your best effort and giving everything you have to help the team win.
Spiel 2
Am Sonntagnachmittag begann unser zweites Spiel ähnlich wie das vom Samstagabend, aber im Dugout war die Stimmung positiver. Nach 4 Innings stand es 0:0. im 5. Inning hatte Quinn DiPasquale (5H 2ER 2BB 1 HBP in 4.1 IP) einige Probleme mit der Kontrolle und wurde von Matt Kemp abgelöst. Nach den 5 Innings führte Köln mit 3:0. Nach einer scorelosen offensive der Cardinals im 6. Inning, gingen die Untouchables mit 4 Runs in Führung und gaben diese nicht mehr ab. Fünf Hits in diesem Inning sorgten für die nötigen Runs, die Florian Seidel und Benjamin Thaqi, die an zwei aufeinanderfolgenden Tagen warfen, mit 2 IP, keinen Runs und 4 Strikeouts abschlossen.
Die positive und energische Einstellung des Teams am Sonntag war ein wichtiger Faktor für unser Comeback. Baseball ist ein Spiel des Scheiterns, bei dem die mentale Stärke täglich auf die Probe gestellt wird. Positiv zu bleiben und die Schläge durchzuziehen, führte dazu, dass Chris Beyers bei einem Count von 0-2 ein RBI-Double schlug. Durch das Schlagen guter Pitches konnte Linus Nixdorf einen 2-RBI-Single schlagen. Bei solchen Dingen geht es darum, sein Bestes zu geben und alles zu tun, damit das Team gewinnt.
